About Us

Guided Fly Fishing

Fly Fish Montana is owned and operated by Eric Knoff, Montana Outfitter # 30116. Eric grew up fishing with his twin brother in Minnesota chasing walleye, pike and bass. In 1994, he and his brother moved to Montana to attend Montana State University and both became hooked on fly fishing. While chasing trout in the summer and snow in the winter, Eric attained a bachelor’s degree in Physical Geography from MSU.

After college, he followed his passion for both rivers and mountains, becoming a guide for Exum Mountain Guides in Teton National Park. After nearly 10 years of guiding mountains, Eric turned his focus to teaching the art of fly fishing. He is an enthusiastic guide who considers sharing an adventure and building a bond with new people the favorite part of his work. Whether it’s casting dry flies or chasing trophy trout on streamers, Eric is committed to making sure your fishing trip will be fun, safe and memorable.

Our Packages

Guided Tours

We offer both full day and half day trips. A full day fishing trip is an incredible way to experience what Montana rivers have to offer. Full day trips give anglers ample time to hone their skills and target different hatches that occur throughout the day. Full day trips include both float and walk wade options. Fly Fish Montana will personalize each trip to ensure you are at the right place at the right time.

If you have limited time or just want to sample fly fishing, a half day float or walk wade trip is a great option. Half day trips can be run both in the morning and in the afternoon. River options are more limited with half day trips to keep travel time to a minimum.

"All four of us caught fish!"

Eric was such a fantastic guide for our family outing on the river! He was knowledgeable, patient, and made us all feel safe. All four of us caught fish! We had a great lunch along the river and a very memorable day. We highly recommend him as a guide and we are planning to go out on the river with him again this year!

"I would recommend him to anyone."

I have had the good fortune to be able to hunt and fish with many guides and outfitters over a lifetime of enjoying the outdoors. That experience has allowed me to quickly assess a guide's knowledge and experience by the way they conduct themselves. It is also a huge bonus if that guide or outfitter also has a personality and demeanor that I enjoy spending time with. I have fished with Eric Knoff for two days a year for the past three years. He has the personality, experience and knowledge of fly fishing in Montana to make that time an outstanding experience.  I will be fishing with him again this fall and look forward to our time together on the water. I would recommend him to anyone.

"We don’t fish unless Eric is our guide."

Nearly 10 years ago, we had the pleasure to have Eric as our guide. Since then, we don’t fish unless Eric is our guide. He has made us better fisherman and goes the extra mile to make it a special experience on the river!
